Danger of Facing a New Crisis in Iraq

Image
As a result of air bombardments and fierce street fighting, Mosul has been virtually turned into a ghost town with almost no buildings that are not demolished or damaged, and the heavy scent of the unburied dead covers the streets. Even though the catastrophe and destruction brought by the operation is painfully obvious, according to Iraqi Prime Minister Ibadi, “a great victory” was won. The detail that didn’t go unnoticed was that even though the operation was closely monitored by the media for months, the news of its result was not as sensational as expected. The main reason for this is the emergence of a new development regarding the near future of Iraq; the realization of a highly dangerous development that could light the fuse of new wars and conflicts. The subject, which led to controversy and great unrest, is a referendum. An independence referendum will be held on September 25th, as Mesud Barzani, President of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (IKRG) announced. The voter...

Women can break free of the chains of radicalism only and solely by virtue of the Qur’an

"Social Media Campaign to Help Afghan Women Break Free From the Chains of Radicalism" Article  by Harun Yahya In July, a group of young and brave Afghan women launched a massive campaign on social media titled “Where is my Name” to protest the laws and customs that prevented them from being called by their names in the country. The campaign brings the traditionalist radical mentality, which is prevalent in the Islamic World and regards women as second-class citizens, to light once again. This discriminatory practice in question makes it necessary for women, whose names are excluded from all aspects of social life, to be called only by the names of their close male relatives. Men address their wives in public with indirect and disdainful expressions, such as “Mother of the Children”, “Housefolk” or “My Weakling”. Some Afghan men, however, go so far as to use this tradition to indulge in the humiliation of women. These people try to cover their primitive and hung-up per...

Health Tragedy in Africa

Throughout the history of mankind, there have been many major outbreaks that claimed millions of lives. The bubonic plague wreaked havoc on Medieval Europe, killing an estimated one-third of the population; historians estimate that a total of 50 million people lost their lives. The plague epidemic in the 19th Century could only be stopped after it claimed 30 million lives. The Spanish Flu outbreak that spread to the world during the last days of World War I infected more than 100 million people. It is believed that the Spanish Flu was one of the deadliest pandemics in history, claiming - even though the actual number is unknown - at least 50 million lives. It is estimated that the two great Asian flu outbreaks of the 20th Century also claimed more than 10 million lives in total. Many deadly diseases of the past have become non-fatal nowadays. Bubonic plague is curable; flu viruses are largely under control. Smallpox has been eradicated. With the drying of the swamps, malaria isn’t...

One Step Forward Two Steps Back Strategy is Back

Recently, Turkey hosted important official guests. First, the Iranian Chief of Staff Major General Baqeri and then the US Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis made successive visits to Ankara. Meanwhile, Russia’s Chief of Staff General Valeriy Gerasimov announced his plan to visit Turkey in the near future. The timing of these visits is crucial given the rapidly changing situation in Syrian War. Since Turkey holds a key role due to its geopolitical position in the region, its allies seek ways to cooperate with Turkey to sustain stability in the Middle East.  Analysts considered Secretary Mattis’s abrupt visit to Ankara as the US’s concern regarding the formation of a Turkey-Iran-Russia alliance. The Secretary’s anxiety is the possible joint operation of Iran and Turkey against the PKK and the negotiations of the purchase of S-400 defence system between Russia and Turkey. The reality doesn’t conform to these assumptions as this isn’t the first go around that these three are working ...

The Ramifications of the Post-9-11 "War on Terror"

Image
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 marked one of the biggest and most violent terrorist attacks in the history of humankind, striking horror in the hearts of the entire world. It was at the same time a critical turning point that altered the course of history since the early 2000s. In the wake of this inhumane and brutal attack that shook all nations, and above all the people of the USA, US President George W. Bush declared a “War on Terror." It was barely a month after he had declared the war during his speech in the Congress, he gave the order of air strike on Afghanistan on October 7, 2001. While the invasion of Afghanistan raged on, using the so-called report by Tony Blair, the then Prime Minister of Britain, and the British Intelligence saying "Iraq is in possession of weapons of mass destruction," this time the Bush administration gave the order for the invasion of Iraq. However today, the Chilcot Report has exposed Blair's intelligence report...
