The world has become a more dangerous place for children

Adnan Oktar's piece in Hindustan Times (India): https://www.hindustantimes.com/analysis/why-the-world-has-become-a-more-dangerous-place-for-children/story-BzTqseq5b1xcDLJ0XRuXIN.html Children’s suffering across the world appears to be on the rise. If one looks at the last year, for instance, it was another conflict-driven year and children paid the highest price. Even worse, their suffering wasn’t limited to predictable conflict regions such as Syria or Yemen. Dozens of countries became brutal arenas of child abuse. Do you remember the Central African Republic? Ukraine? South Sudan? These and many other regions saw increasing numbers of children being placed in the frontline of conflicts. According to UNICEF’s Director of Emergency, Manuel Fontaine, “...children are being targeted and exposed to attacks and brutal violence in their homes, schools and playgrounds. As these attacks continue..., we cannot become numb. Such brutality cannot be the new normal.” Sadly, such ho...

What is the Solution to Gun Violence?

Image
Adnan Oktar's piece in Kashmir Reader (India): https://kashmirreader.com/2018/03/02/religious-sensibility-and-spirituality-are-the-meaningful-solution-to-gun-violence/  The latest Florida mass shooting once again has the world thinking; what is the real cause of the problem? Is it the easy sale of guns? Or is it mental illnesses? Could that be due to lack of law enforcement or gaps in police intelligence? It is obvious that the reason lies in something deeper, as similar incidents occur too often. What about the culture of hate and how the media persistently glorifies violence? Surely, there are many factors associated with such brutality and addressing each one individually could be a method for seeking a resolution. But, one crucial point seems to go unnoticed most of the time: unresolved anger issues. The traces of this disturbing trend can be spotted in a variety of settings; in peaceful street protests that suddenly turn violent, at schools where teenagers suddenly break...

Loneliness is a modern epidemic

Image
Adnan Oktar's piece in New Straits Times (Malaysia): https://www.nst.com.my/opinion/columnists/2018/02/337115/loneliness-modern-epidemic Today, people of the world are connected to each other like they have never been before. A farmer in California can befriend a fisherman in Indonesia, while a young girl from New York City can exchange the latest fashion trends with her peers in Istanbul. In other words, our world is a very different, much more socially active place than it was a century ago. Our acquaintances are no longer limited to families, neighbours or colleagues. Limitless options offered by the age of the Internet and communications seem to have brought everyone closer. So, it is rather surprising to learn that people don’t feel the effects of this ubiquitous connectivity, and feel more isolated despite it. According to a survey conducted in the United States of 2,000 people, almost 72 per cent reported feeling lonely and many said that the feeling was quite o...

Blossoming Egypt-Turkey Trade Signals the Beginning of a New Era

Image
“On the same day the Ottomans entered the war, the British declared martial law in Egypt […] the British authorities remained concerned about Egyptian loyalties. Unwilling to involve Egyptian soldiers in a fight where bonds of religion would almost certainly outweigh respect for the colonial authorities, the British decided to exempt the Egyptian people from the war entirely,” according to the book “The Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle East” by Eugene Rogan Eugene Rogan. This is how Eugene Rogan, the famous British professor of modern Middle Eastern history at the University of Oxford explains the strong bonds between Egyptians and Turks. Indeed, no matter what temporary disturbances might arise, the mutual love and respect of these two people has for each other is too strong to be ever broken. Now, after a long hiatus, well-intentioned steps quietly taken by Turkey and Egypt to mend the previously strained ties of friendship have begun to come to fruition. And,...

Draw the line on hate crimes

Image
Adnan Oktar's piece in The Pioneer (India): http://www.dailypioneer.com/columnists/oped/draw-the-line-on-hate-crimes.html Only imposing stringent penalties or exercising retaliatory violence is not a solution to hate crimes. Instead, emphasise on programmes that promote altruism, solidarity, respect and harmony within society Dictionaries define the word ‘hate’ as ‘the feeling of ill-will and resentment towards someone,’ and it is occasionally used as a synonym of ‘disgust.’ In many works, hateful remarks are described as “hate speech” while crimes motivated by hatred are characterised as “hate crimes.” Hate crimes, as also defined by the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), are committed against an individual or a group, due to reasons that may arouse prejudice such as race, ethnicity, language, religion, physical or mental disabilities and gender. Usually expressed in the form of violence, hate crimes can also manifest as harassment, t...

Interview with Adnan Oktar

Image
1. You are widely famous for your pen name Harun Yahya, and your real name is Adnan Oktar. Why do you use a pen-name? God informs the believers in the Qur’an that Prophet Aaron (as) and Prophet John (as) were sent to help Prophet Moses (as) and Prophet Jesus (as) respectively. Likewise, Muslims are the helpers, friends and brothers and sisters of the Messenger of God. I am using the pen name Harun Yahya as a sign of my prayers and intention to be a helper of the Messenger of God in the End Times. It is a name chosen with the intention to become a person who helps, supports, protects and watches over the prophets as Aaron and John did. 2. Your concentration is entirely dedicated to refute some antagonistic venomous theories such as Darwinism and Romanticism. Why? People complain about wars, exiles, wrongdoings and injustices, and they all want a change in the way things are going yet most of them either fail to or do not bother to identify the main reason that makes the world a...
